About Vintage Fendi Sunglasses
Inspired by the beauty and traditions of their home country, Fendi is a celebration of Italian glamour and craftsmanship. What started out as a small family business has expanded into one of the world’s most sought-after luxury labels. Although Fendi is renowned for their quality leather goods and furs, their eyewear is also highly treasured among celebrities, influencers, and trendsetters across the globe. Learn more about the impressive history of Fendi below!
Fendi’s chic designs can always be traced back to their Roman roots. It may be hard to believe, but the Italian fashion powerhouse started out as a small boutique on Via del Plebiscito in 1925. Owned by newlyweds Edoardo and Adele Fendi, the boutique quickly became famous for its high quality leather bags and furs. Fashion lovers from all over central Italy would travel to the boutique to admire the impeccable level of craftsmanship put into Fendi designs.
Having conquered Rome, the Fendis began to grow their brand both in product assortment and presence. Fendi boutiques began popping up all over Italy with new collections, including clothing and more accessories. The team expanded, but Fendi remained a family business at its core. Sisters Paola, Anna, Franca, Carla, and Alda officially joined the company in 1946, making them the second generation of Fendis to run the business. However, by the 1960s the fashion house had grown so big that the Fendis enlisted outside help. The legendary Karl Lagerfeld was appointed creative director in 1965, officially cementing Fendi’s status as a premier Italian luxury brand.
The label’s product range expanded even more under Lagerfeld’s direction, including the launch of Fendi Eyewear in the 1980s. It was immediately met with a positive reception from fans and fashion editors. The timeless designs upheld the brand’s commitment to sophistication and quality while featuring innovative elements that made them stand out. From sleek cat-eye sunglasses to stylish aviators, vintage Fendi Eyewear embodied retro Italian elegance. It remains a favourite amongst celebrities including Kylie Jenner, Christina Aguilera, and Rihanna.
Owning a genuine pair of vintage Fendi sunglasses is especially prestigious after Karl Lagerfeld’s tragic death in 2019. It’s a way of honouring his legacy while preserving Fendi’s dedication to masterful Italian craftsmanship.
